The Origin Story

Shards of Hope

A Tweaker Witch's Journey
Forthcoming

This is the story of a life that refused to end. Addiction, survival, and finding magic in the gutter. From trafficking and childhood trauma to jumping from a five-story window and surviving — this is how Jeff B. White came to still possess hope.

The Shards of Color Trilogy is a direct allegorical translation of this memoir into dark fantasy. The real story came first. The mythology followed.

Two Worlds, One Truth

These two worlds bleed into each other

The hard-won lessons Jeff learned turned into a full mythology — a conversation on the AIDS crisis, lateral damage within the gay community, and the creation of a cosmology spanning from the creation of their universe to the end of their world. Every character, every emotion, every rupture in the fantasy maps back to something real.

Every color costs something

Each hue is unlocked through emotional rupture. There are no shortcuts to the spectrum.

Indigo
Crezwil
Tied to the emotion of Embrace and the element of Flame, bringing the lesson that Jethran must learn to love the one beneath the scars because scars tell the story of survival.
Cobalt
Muralis
Connected to the emotion of Stillness and the element of Void, this gives Jethran permission to accept numbness to quiet the pain and fear to allow for growth and healing.
Aureolin
Rabb
Found in the emotion of Strength and the element of Seed, this power gives Jethran the ability to distinguish between the righteous rage against injustice that cleanses and the destructive anger that can destroy everything.
Crimson
Elba
Discovered through the emotion of Memory and the element of Self, this skill teaches Jethran the importance of knowing where he came from and trusting the path being traveled.
Vermilion
Hun Gun
Realized through the emotion of Acceptance and the element of Wave, showing that Jethran must mourn the versions of himself that he never became and accept life that he was given.
Celadon
Midgelle
Understood through the emotion of Grace and the element of Wind, giving Jethran permission to forgive himself for what he has survived without demanding forgiveness be given to those who harmed him.
Mallow
Rainbow King
Seen through the emotion of Hope and the element of Harmony — the moment when Jethran finally sees himself for who he truly is. Learning the truth that what society had deemed a flaw was truly his greatest strength.
A New Form of Magic
Spectrasy

Spectrasy emerges as a living convergence of color, emotion, element, and magic itself. It becomes an internal conversation found by allowing yourself to feel everything at once. Mastery requires harmonizing with the Living Pulse to sing the notes of the Pure Melody and follow the threads of the True Weave. Those who wield this magic function as a prism of power, capable of healing the land and uniting fractured spirits. This defiant amalgamation of beauty and light transforms even the grayest world into a kingdom of vibrant hues.

Three books. One spectrum.

A story told across three volumes, each pulling Jethran deeper into a world that demands he feel nothing while he carries everything.

Book One

Blush Born

Jethran Frye is born with color in a monochrome world — deemed a flaw, marked for incineration. He encounters the Seven Songs, loses his hand to the Menders who call mutilation healing, and falls in love with Fable. He defeats the Uncrowned King not with violence, but with emotional intelligence — the full weight of everything he has survived.

"And they lived colorfully ever still."

The Rainbow King is revealed to be their future selves — the guide was always them.

"And they truly live colorfully ever still."

About the Author

Jeff B. White

Jeff B. White writes stories about the things people are told to hide. The Shards of Color Trilogy is his debut work: a dark fantasy built on the conviction that the world's most dangerous weapon is a person who has survived their own feelings and refuses to be ashamed of them.

The trilogy was born from a question: What would it look like if emotion itself were the magic system? Not fireballs and lightning. Survival, perception, rage, memory, acceptance, and forgiveness. Six colors. Six ruptures. One boy who bleeds pink in a world that outlawed color.

At its heart, this is a story about oppression, disability, chosen family, queer love, and the terrifying power of feeling everything in a world that demands you feel nothing. Jethran Frye doesn't win with a sword. He wins with radical honesty and emotional intelligence. And that's the point.
